Whilst continuing to explore their environment through play, children are encouraged to develop self help skills and independence which will enable them to participate fully when they go off to ‘big school’. The children get messy, have fun and learn along the way, both indoors and outside in the pre-school garden and the campus grounds, The children love to collect leaves in the autumn, splash in the puddles when it is wet, or to look for the Gruffalo on the school field. We visit the library regularly to give the children the opportunity to choose their own books for story times.
Parent partnerships – We actively encourage a working partnership between staff and parent/carers. First Steps recognises that parents are the first and main carers of their children, and so staff work closely with parents to reach common goals for each child. We offer an open door policy. Parents are welcome at any time. Partnerships can be enhanced by parents becoming actively involved with nursery life.
